Moving Forward

I like to exceed at things that are measurable. Things that I can see the data, showing my progress, and how far I have come. Things like, health, sales, and finances. I can measure exactly how much weight I have lost, or how long it has been since I have had acid reflux. I can measure how much debt I have paid down, or how many sales I have made, my closing percentage, etc.

However, focusing only on the things that are obviously measurable and not working on the invisible things, can create a lot of problems for me.

The invisible things; emotional health, mental health, and spiritual health. These things are just as important, but get neglected because it is much more difficult to measure progress or success in these areas. In fact, when it comes to spiritual health, it often works the opposite of all the other areas of my life.

When it comes to the invisible areas of our lives, I think the important thing to remember, is that it is about process. It would be better to not focus on the outcome as much as focusing on the journey, the process. Sometimes the only way you can tell if you have made any progress in these areas, is through adversity. How can you really tell how much progress you have made in growing emotionally, if no one ever crosses you, shames you, causes you to feel fear, or hurts your feelings. You can’t tell how much you’ve grown, until you have the opportunity to react right.

These are areas of frustration for me. One of the things I get frustrated by, is the fact that, you can think you have made all this progress and everything go crazy. You think you’ve don all this growing, and then act completely immature and hurt someone close to you. Even in those circumstances, maturity is taking responsibility, owning up to your mistakes, making it as right as you can, and moving forward.

Sometimes you just have to keep doing what you know is right. You have to just keep pushing forward “blindly,” hoping you are going to get the correct outcome, from doing what you think is right.

Here’s to trying to see more, and more clearly!

Good thought! Sometimes the greatest evidence of growth is the ownership of our mistakes and failures.
