Unstuck

Its ok to dream. Let your mind go. You probably haven’t done this since you were a child, but it’s ok to do it as an adult. Think about when you were young. Think about the things you dreamed of doing. Take the “adult” restrictions off, and just dream again. Feel the feelings of absolute freedom, that you felt long ago. Yesterday, I sat down and wrote out 4 lists of things that I want, or want to accomplish in the next 20 years. It was absolutely the most freeing thing, to just let my imagination run free!

I read recently where somebody had posted about going after your dreams, you don’t have to be stuck in the “doldrums” and such. a person commented, and I’m not sure exactly what the point of her comment was. I don’t think they actually thought about their point, I think the author had just struck a sore spot. But, she was “getting on to” the author because, “If everyone just followed their dreams, we wouldn’t have any doctors, firemen, waste management people, clerks in grocery stores, etc” I thought to myself, “How sad is this?” You are really saying that we couldn’t figure out what to do, if all the guys who pick up your trash suddenly got better jobs, where they didn’t have to mess with trash all day? More importantly, you are condemning them too a life of picking up trash? Like, they can’t even dream of something better, because your trash needs to be picked up?

It is such a weird way of thinking, but i’ts something I see often. I think ANYONE who wants to chase their dream, should do so. I don’t believe you always have to quit your current job to chase your dream. I believe you can do it on the side until you’ve reached a launching zone. But why should anyone feel condemned to being stuck? Feeling stuck is one of the worst feelings in the world, to me.

When I first moved to Sikeston, MO, one of the first things I discovered about my pastor, Rick Lovall, was he is a man who believed in hope, and he made others feel it too. I had never, so acutely, felt hope before. Or, at least, I had never been so aware of it. I want to help others to feel that too. With the internet, libraries, and friends and family we have, there is a wealth of knowledge at our fingertips. We can find information about anything really. If you want to write a book, I can name off 3-4 people who have FREE information on how to get started. Want to be a speaker? I can name off even more. Want to be an artist, musician, singer, actor, whatever, it’s available.  If you want it, go after it. Author, speaker, and Ultimate coach, Tony Robbins stated, “All too often, the security of a mediocre present is more comfortable than the adventure of trying to be more in the future.” ( @TonyRobbins)

Often times we have been lulled to sleep by the comfort of our rut and routine, and we don’t even realize how unhappy we are with the way our lives are going. We have become so numb to the nagging pain of regret, that we just keep dragging on. WAKE UP! You are better than you think you are! You are better than you think you are!! You are better than you think you are!!! (I got louder as I typed that) This isn’t supposed to just be a cheesy motivational post. This is years of my own slumber and self-deprecation, and watching and listening to others do the same. This is watching people who have superior intelligence and talent, stuck doing things that doesn’t even make sense. A man with an IQ of well over 140, and innate ability to understand commerce and economics, stuck as a maintenance man? You know the stories. Why is this? Why would some one with an incredible charismatic personality, who could “sell ice to an Eskimo” be stuck behind the wheel driving for a living? I don’t know? Maybe someone sold them a lie that they had to conform. Maybe someone told them that was all they could be. Maybe someone didn’t tell them, “It’s ok to be happy and healthy. It’s ok to exceed all expectations. Its ok to succeed. It’s ok to go after your dreams.”

“Frustration is nothing more than unmet expectations” – Rick Lovall

I have so much gratitude towards Rick Lovall, for releasing me. He took off the chains of expectation and released me into hope and healing.  Feel the freedom!

Let me say it to you, “It’s ok to be happy and healthy.”

Living your dream doesn’t necessarily mean you have to leave your current job or situation. It can also mean doing your current job or situation even better. Great post!
