I launched a podcast this week, and I am very excited about it. My first episode is live and my second episode is recorded. I am calling it, The ReDefined Podcast. It, as much of my content on here, is about transformation.
I couldn’t tell you when my obsession with Romans 12:1-2 began, but I think it was in the mid ’90’s. Kenneth Baglin, affectionately called Grandpa Baglin, was teaching at our church in Rio Dell, CA and had this stuffed caterpillar for an object lesson. He showed how the word “transformed” had Greek origins as, “metamorphoo” which is where we get the word “metamorphosis.” He would describe how a caterpillar undergoes metamorphosis to become a butterfly, while turning the stuffed caterpillar inside out to be a butterfly. It was quite impacting.

Chester Wright likens a tadpole turning into a frog, when he teaches it. Because, everything completely changes in that animal, including the method of breathing.
I don’t believe that this transformation happens in a single moment for us. I believe that it is a process that takes a very long time, and ends with us dead. I believe we are BEING conformed into Jesus’ image.
Dr Jordan Peterson said, “You’re okay the way you are,”is not the right story. The right story is, “You’re way less than you could be.” That’s what ignites the fire within. I agree and disagree, I think it should be stated with a “but” in between those two statements, “You’re okay the way you are, but you’re way less than you could be!” I don’t think we have to shame people into transformation, I think we need to put in front of them what could be. And what could be is a life that is so good that we are cautioned to “not think of ourselves more highly than we ought.”
Transformation happens when 3 things are lined up and considered equally important parts of a whole; thinking, feeling (including physiology), and behavior (actions). Dr Brene Brown speaks about this in her book Rising Strong; How the ability to reset transforms he way we live, love, parent, and lead. Most people talk about maybe one or two of things being important, but she is the only one I’ve seen tie all 3 together and give them equal importance.
I pray grace, mercy, and peace be unto you from God our Father, the Lord Jesus Christ.
