A New Idea

Tony Robbins tweeted “Man’s mind stretched to a new idea never goes back to its original dimensions.”
– Oliver Wendell Holmes

Once you’ve been exposed to the good stuff, you are “ruined.” You are never satisfied with less when you have been shown that there is more. No one wants to go back to less. Once you’ve grown, you don’t want to shrink back to the smallness of what you were before. It can feel like a grown German Shepherd being shoved into a puppy cage. There will be pain, scratching, biting, growling, and chaos.

Once you have been shown there is a better way, you can’t go back. Once you have been shown freedom, you can’t go back to bondage. If you force yourself back, you will be in tremendous pain and frustration.

Do you think David was comfortable going back to the field to tend sheep after he slew Goliath? Do you think Joseph was comfortable as head of Potiphar’s house, or head of the jail, when he was promised that everyone would bow before him?

The thing about growing and stretching, is that people notice. People aren’t always happy with the growth in your life. They aren’t always happy that things are changing and improving. Especially people who have become complacent with where they are in their life. Too many people want us to remain below them, not even beside them as their equals.

Grow anyway.

Stretch anyway.

Not out of spite, or because you have a bad attitude, but because it is what’s right. Because you and your family need you too. Stretch because you wont be truly happy until you are what you can be.

I have felt like I have been hitting a wall for the last several years, but fear and laziness was holding me back from breaking through that wall.

I was recently told, by someone I trust implicetly, “You are at a tipping point. Will you go back to your old way of thinking, or breakthroughinto the new way?” I have made my decision. It wont lok or feel conventional, but I am breaking through. I am pushing on. Inspite of fear, inspite of wanting to be lazy and passive. I want breakthrough more than laziness. I want a better future more than I am afraid of what I have to do to get there.

Those are strong declarations, at least for me, and there will be times where I don’t live up to what I have declared. But, I will move forward even after I make a mistake. I will push on through the failures, inspite of the failures.

Because I have a new idea, a new way of thinking. My mind has been stretched and it isn’t going back.
