“Suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death in kids 10-19. We must reach them!!!” This was a text I received last night.
He then asked me a question that caught me off guard.
“How can a world be so bad that a 10 year old would say that it isn’t worth living?”
In a time that should be the most fun time of their life, there is a nasty trend that says, it isn’t.
Why is this happening?
Why aren’t these kids able to enjoy their childhood, their teens?
Why are they being touched by this kind of tragedy?
Why is it that when they should be thinking about food and fun, they are thinking about other things.
Things like:
bullying
drugs
cigarettes
alcohol
sex
morning after pills
condoms
being cool
being sexy
getting caught looking at porn
and the list goes on…and on!
Why is this happening?
Who is to blame?
I think this is something society as a whole needs to take responsibility for. We need to be grown ups and realize, we don’t just live our lives for ourselves. There is more at stake here then we tend to want to think about. This is the next generation that is willfully taking their own lives. Will we continue to do things as usual? Or will we take a stand and let this world know, things HAVE to change.
We all have to take responsibility. We can no longer be selfish, and self-centered.
We must began to give.
Time
Feelings
Love
Attention
Reinforcement
Affirmation
This life is never about us, there is a bigger picture.
Our children need us. They need us in a greater way than they can say, or even know.
We must make a difference.
We must make changes.
Let’s do this…for the kids!

Keep writing.
